Wondering what a bike ride has to do with the Sierra Club? The Sierra Club was founded in 1892 as an outing club to connect people with the outdoors. A few years ago the Vermont Sierra Club prioritized transportation as a key priority because it’s responsible for about 40% of Vermont’s carbon emissions. Since then we have been strategically advocating to electrify vehicles, expand transit options, require new development and housing to be accessible to transit, and invest more in bike and pedestrian infrastructure.

This particular ride is important because we are advocating the development of a bike corridor along all of U.S. Route 5 from Massachusetts to Canada. A survey conducted by the Vermont Agency of Transportation last year demonstrated that all of the communities along the route supported the concept. We need a grassroots effort to get this rolling and built! This ride is part of that community-building process: See here for more information.

See you there!
