Wondering what a bike ride has to do with the Sierra Club? The Sierra Club was founded in 1892 as an outing club to connect people with the outdoors. A few years ago the Vermont Sierra Club prioritized transportation as a key priority because it’s responsible for about 40% of Vermont’s carbon emissions. Since then we have been strategically advocating to electrify vehicles, expand transit options, require new development and housing to be accessible to transit, and invest more in bike and pedestrian infrastructure.
This particular ride is important because we are advocating the development of a bike corridor along all of U.S. Route 5 from Massachusetts to Canada. A survey conducted by the Vermont Agency of Transportation last year demonstrated that all of the communities along the route supported the concept. We need a grassroots effort to get this rolling and built! This ride is part of that community-building process: See here for more information.
See you there!

WHAT PEOPLE
IN THE UPPER VALLEY
SAY ABOUT E-BIKES
HILL ERASER
Borrowed the step through. Plenty of power to make it up hills easily.
CLOSE THE ABILITY GAP BETWEEN RIDERS
I loved it. Took it for a ride with a friend who rides regularly and it closed the gap on our ability level so we could ride together and enjoy each other’s company!
HANDS ON EXPERIENCE
Great to get to experience the bike.
It was such a great program! I've been thinking about whether I want to buy an ebike and being able to try one out before spending a lot of money was very helpful.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR ASSIST
Loved it. Was fun to play around and figure out the best combinations of gear and electric assist (or not) for various terrain. Like the idea that this could get a rider out on roads they may have avoided before and that as a rider gets in better shape they can dial back on assist.
EXPAND COMMUTING RANGE
Great. Made it much easier to expand my bike commuting range a bit.
CUT COMMUTE TIME
It was very informative as it was the first experience with e-bikes for both my wife and me, even though we are both experienced bicyclists. In particular, we were impressed with the ability of the e-bike to cut our commute times (almost) in half while enabling to reach our destinations without the usual symptoms of sweat and windedness!
